Bad Boys for life film review

  • Whatchu gonna do when they come for you.

There was a time when I thought there wasn’t going to be another Bad Boys film due to the skeptic in me not believing in all the rumors in the past few years, but it’s out and it wasn’t bad. This film remedied the lackluster of a film Bad Boys 2 was and it elevated the supporting cast that’s now helping our heroes in this film Mike Lowry (Will Smith) and Marcus Bernett (Martin Lawrence) take on a new battle. At the beginning of the film we find out these characters are entering the end of their careers but Mike Lowry still has that Bad Boys energy and prefers to be a badass who takes on the deadly risks and never settles down romantically because as we’ve seen in the last two films Mike Lowry is a player. On the other hand, we have a now grandpa Marcus Bernett who wants to retire and take care of his grandson with his family instead of putting his life on the line chasing and taking down criminals who’ll love nothing more to kill him and Mike. Everything changes when Mike’s a victim of a failed assassination attempt and the two have no choice but return to the game and lay down the dirt on the soon to be buried criminals. What I did like about this film was the help they had, a specialized high tech crew called the AMMO squad that will aid in taking down high profile criminals. This type of ensemble team is reminiscent of the Fast and Furious series style of “family” and it gets no better when the two leads show their solidarity with the slogan of “we ride we die together” and look the bad guys in the eye and tell them how things will end. It’s always fun hearing them sing the tune of the song bad boys with Marcus always creating his lyrics after the chorus and Mike telling him to stop. As with the other two films, there is a ton of action here with scenes that end with expected explosions and laughs from the mayhem occurring. The villains in the film Isabel Aretas (Kate del Castillo) and Armando Armas (Jacob Scipio) were interesting foes and had revenge on their plates due to a connection and history with one of the Bad Boys. However, there could of been more depth to the backstory to these foes as their relationship to a certain Bad Boy predated the original film in 1995 story line. For the entertainment value, it did what intended to showcase, but if this film had a stronger plotline and pacing the film would have been even better, and that could have helped balance out the constant action. All in all, this was a solid film nothing outstanding but I wasn’t expecting it to be something with a complex narrative because it lived up to what it did in the last two installments which was an action-comedy that will entertain the masses and I believe it did just that. If you’ve seen the film let me know what you thought of it in the comment section and leave a like and follow so you can stay up to date with my future posts. As always peace and keep it real.
