Photo description: Abyssinian Meeting House is the oldest Black American church in Maine, and aside from being a place of worship, it served as a sanctuary during the Underground Railroad. In addition, the church played a pivotal role in the development of the Female Benevolent Society, the Portland Union Anti-Slavery Society, Negro conventions, and the establishment of the black school in Portland from the mid-1840s to the mid-1850s.

Food and Restaurant review: Duckfat

I haven’t had poutine (a Canadian dish) since 2018, when I last visited Canada. DuckFat is one of the popular and prominent restaurants in Portland, Maine, so I had to try their famous poutine dish. In terms of customer service, the staff was hospitable and affable. That said, I arrived at DuckFat during peak lunch hours (a little after 12:30 PM) and proceeded to place an order of poutine for take-out, but they didn’t offer that service. However, one of the waiters told me that she could circumvent that by having me place my order at a table, and I could leave with my order in a take-out bag. She could have easily turned me away, but she accommodated my request, so I truly appreciate the excellent customer service she provided. Now, onto the quality of the food. The fries were lightly seasoned, which I won’t complain about because if they had been heavily seasoned, the gravy would have made the fries unbearably salty, and that’s something I can’t tolerate. In addition, I was a bit disappointed that the fries had a slight crunch, but I didn’t think much of it after I poured the gravy. The gravy had a slight sweetness to it that I wasn’t accustomed to, but it immensely enhanced the savory and robust flavor profile.
