Title: Now Boarding
Location: New Haven Amtrak Station, New Haven, Connecticut, USA
Photo description: I took this photo before boarding a train back to Boston. Before boarding, we unfortunately experienced a few minor delays that pushed the departure time behind schedule. Aside from that, I enjoyed the round-trip ride that took me through the major cities of Rhode Island (check out my Providence post I made in November if you haven’t) and through much of Connecticut until finally reaching New Haven.
Title: Humid Hours
Location: Downtown New Haven, Connecticut, USA
Photo description: After I left the Yale Peabody Museum on that humid afternoon, I began to traverse downtown New Haven for places to eat. From my perspective, even a simple photo like this can tell a story, like those two men who I believe were in mid-conversation when I took this photo.
Title: Sharing Neighborhood Stories
Location: New Haven Green, Connecticut, USA
Photo description: I had the great pleasure of listening to stories from New Haven locals, and their stories were profound, poignant, and remarkable. I learned a lot of history about the neighborhoods in New Haven and how New Haven residents coalesced to change lives for the betterment of their city. Additionally, the mission never stops, and they always make it a goal to cultivate, improve, and unite a community so future generations can be influenced to do the same.
Title: Prosopy with every verse
Location: Franklin Park Playstead, Boston, MA
Photo description: Hip Hop artist Rapsody blessed the BAMSFEST 2024 stage. I recently listened to some songs off her latest album and I must say, she has a great ability to deliver bombastic, mellow, introspective, raw lyrics. In addition, her energy was infectious and she had complete control of the crowd once she hit the stage.
Title: Welcome to New Haven’s Green
Location: New Haven Green, Connecticut, USA
Photo description: As you can see from this photo, there is a concert stage in the background. Musical performances for the International Arts and Ideas Festival were being held in the park that afternoon. The musical performances lasted from late afternoon until the evening and the performances were fantastic.
Bonus entry (Thoughts on the New Haven Pizza)
During my time in New Haven, I tried the famous New Haven slices from a famous and acclaimed pizza chain called Sally’s Apizza. If you ever plan on visiting this restaurant, be prepared to encounter a long line, and pizza orders are baked every hour if memory serves me well. Anyway, the pizza was disappointing, lackluster, and, quite frankly, unappealing. One thing in particular that bothered me was that I immediately noticed that the pizza had a cheese-to-sauce disparity. There was more sauce than cheese, and to make matters worse, the crust was burnt, which is something I strongly dislike. Nevertheless, I finished my portion of the pie including the crust (I shared it with a friend) because I didn’t want to be wasteful.
Moreover, a week before I traveled to New Haven, renowned chef Gordon Ramsay visited this restaurant and praised their pizza for being exceptional. I found this perplexing at first because I wondered what kind of pizza he had that was different from mine. However, I understood after reading an article recounting his visit that our opinions and expectations are subjective, so I can’t blame him for thinking the pizza was delicious. All things considered, I may give this restaurant a second chance if I ever make a return to New Haven because their first impression left me desiring more and also wanting to return home so I could visit a local pizzeria and cleanse my palate from their subpar quality of pizza. Sorry, not sorry, to any of the locals of New Haven.
