- This post was inspired by an article about how our brains are sometimes wired for pessimism. I’ll leave the link to the article below if anyone is interested.

Please make no mistake, I think we should all develop a consistent optimistic outlook in our lives but honestly, there are days when it’s difficult for some and that’s where pessimism relentlessly takes over. Moreover, I think some lack positive affectivity or in other words, establishing a disposition that looks toward “sunnier days” and a sense of determination toward an achievement of delight. Additionally, these individuals always want to remove the monotony, one of them being an everyday participant in the “rat race” of capitalism. Regarding that, they’ve been conditioned in a society where their constant productivity can lead to exhaustion and a lack of appreciation at the cost of satisfaction. Furthermore, living in the present moment is something we should all practice, but if you’re focusing on optimism, are you truly living in the present? I would argue that some fail to fully immerse themselves in the present because optimism requires them to look toward the future. Concerning that, adults are always planning futures and that’s what distinguishes us from wildlife, we’re creatures of the future. Depending on the circumstances, it is inevitable that adversities and setbacks will arise causing some to become demoralized and develop a pessimistic mindset. However, there is help that can focus our disposition on a path conducive to growth. In other words, use the paths and lessons learned during your change for a better purpose and a better tomorrow.
