Echoes of regrets

  • Hello viewers, this poem will preface an upcoming long-form blog post about regret. I plan on publishing it within the next two days. If you have enjoyed this post, then give it a like and comment if you want to chime in so we can start a conversation. I am because we are, that’s Ubuntu. As always, peace and keep it real.

He looks back with a heavy heart
At all the choices he made
Each one a mistake, tearing him apart
Regret, a constant unrelenting enemy

He sees the path not taken
Consumed with reluctance
Fear and doubt left him shaken
Now he’s stuck, wishing he had committed

The missed opportunities, the chances lost
Haunt his mind in the dead of night
Exhausted by the what-ifs and could-haves
Leaving him filled with remorse and trepidation

He remembers the words left unsaid
The chances he didn’t take
Now he walks around with a burden

That’s too heavy to endure

The times he’s wasted on frivolous things
Now it seems so trivial and fake
If only hindsight had given him wings to soar

Away from the dread that grounded him
He wouldn’t have made those mistakes

The regrets compile and tumble like an avalanche
Buried beneath its weight
He wants to go back to the starting point

Because he’s eager to take on new challenges

And for another chance at redemption

He wonders what could have been

An outsider to his desired outcomes
If he had only followed his instincts

Things may have been pleasant
But now, his objective is to be meticulous
Happiness hasn’t departed, it’s merely dormant

Regret, the eternal shadow lurking in his movements
Reminding him of what could have been
Even though he looks ahead, he still feels deprived

Continuously searching for something fulfilling
With determination, victory is always possible

So let this be a lesson to everyone

And words of encouragement
Don’t let regret become your fate
Take chances, stand tall
Before it’s too late
