Thoughtful Gems: Volume 4 (Tweet 7 of 10)

Don’t rely on others’ conclusions when it comes to art or anything; you must come to your conclusions.

 – TheRhymeRula

I am changing my perspectives on how I interpret art (and other things) because I do not think it is conducive to my satisfaction if I allow external opinions to influence my thoughts on what I enjoy. For example, an acquaintance recommended I watch the Green Lantern film from 2011 because I am a fan of the character and The Justice League. Negative reviews initially kept me from watching it, as I didn’t want to waste time on a poorly received film. However, I acquiesced after much convincing and I think it changed my outlook on my judgment of films that perform poorly from a critics’ perspective. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the movie because it explained the history behind the Green Lantern and their determination for justice. Furthermore, I’m uncertain how much I will fully commit to this new disposition, but I am always open to changing my perspectives if I find it beneficial. In closing, as the quote included in the post states, we must come to our conclusions and understand that we are bombarded by influences that seek to dictate how we think and want us to agree with something we are either against or do not find any interest in, which I think is dangerous for a growth perspective.
