- Welcome readers, I was inspired to write this piece after listening to a Miles Davis song titled “L’assassinat de carala”. During my first listen, I was outside one night and as I headed toward my destination, all I could envision was a hazy Noir setting and the narrator sensing an imminent problem ready to happen but also seeing light at the end of it. Everyone reacts to and interprets music differently, so what I would implore you to do is listen to this song and let me know what you thought of it in the comments. Staring out the window
The black velvet night sky
was extremely alluring
Silence overpowered by an echoing confession
It permeated my mind as I opened the blinds
3AM staring at a drizzling chill
On a rain-streaked window
I exhaled remnants of a joint
My vision momentarily obscured
Accompanied by a sunken heart
Its rhythm beats languished
I spoke with a college friend at midnight
A two-hour conversation between us was borne
None of his other friends answered his calls
Ecstatic I answered, saved from a deeper fall
He told me his story
Tales of whiskey-soaked daze
Angry at himself
Yet here he was, brave to express his pain
And do his best to rectify his inebriated ways
The morning brought a heaviness to my chest
I’m enshrouded in smoke but I can still see
The vibrant sunrise peek through the gloom
