It is not a descent

But a consistent visit

A hobby is a room, better yet, a sanctuary you enter to breathe,

Loading screens

Patience is the price to play

There is a logic in the advanced graphics,

A rhythm in the button-press

That only a gamer would understand

Critics call it “a waste of time,”

As if every hour must be a coin

deposited into the bank of productivity.

My mind isn’t wandering; it’s focused on victories

Why can’t I enjoy what I found in this digital bliss?

And marvel at the gradual progress

Of characters who grow to become legends

Meanwhile, the world outside is put on DND until I’m ready to return

It is the moderation that keeps the exhilaration from turning into a fog

Like a sharp winter wind

enough to wake the senses,

And strong enough to bite.

Don’t capitulate to the judgment of others

If it ignites a quiet fire in your chest,

or softens the edges of an overwhelming day

Then pick up the controller,

Pick up the brush,

Pick up the pen

Pick up the musical instrument

You are allowed to be happy

in ways that produce nothing

but a smile and unforgettable moments

  1. This especially resonates with me:

“As if every hour must be a coin

deposited into the bank of productivity.

My mind isn’t wandering; it’s focused on victories”
